Independence has long been a treasured virtue in Missouri.

In the Show-Me State, we have always fought for what's right for our families and neighbors.

Unfortunately for us, Rep. Kenny Hulshof does not demonstrate this trait that makes Missouri so great.  His votes have consistently put the interests of his president and party above those of his country and state.

Ever since George Bush and his radical agenda took over Washington, Hulshof has walked in lockstep every step of the way. From 2001 to 2004, Hulshof voted to approve the Bush Agenda a whopping 94% of the time! During that same time, he voted with the Republican leaders in Congress 95% of the time.

Whether he's subsidizing Big Oil companies 1, gutting environmental protections 2, siding with agricultural corporations instead of family farmers 3 or stripping American workers of their most basic protections 4, Hulshof fails to speak with Missouri's independent voice. When it comes to playing partisan politics, Kenny just can't say "no."

We deserve more. Duane Burghard will provide the independent voice that Missouri deserves and the leadership that Washington D.C. desperately needs. Learn more about our campaign and how Duane will fight for us -- not just his party. Or donate to the campaign and help get our message out.

H.R. 6 4/20/05: The Energy Policy Act of 2005 was a massive step backwards at a time our country desperately needs forward-thinking energy solutions. Its provisions opened up public lands to drilling, exempted MTBE producers that contaminated groundwater from prosecution and gave 90% of its subsidies to "dirty" fuels like oil and coal and only 6% to energy efficiency and renewable energy incentives.  Rep. Hulshof joined with Bush and the Big Oil companies to support H.R. 6.

H.R. 3893 10/07/05: After the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the rising gas prices, there was a large push to expand the capacity of oil refineries.  Under this guise, Rep. Barton (R-TX) introduced H.R. 3893.  Unfortunately, the bill was actually an attempt to gut clean air protections, extend pollution-reduction requirement deadlines, delay the use of cleaner fuels and prohibit states' abilities to use low-sulfur diesel.  The bill even required taxpayers to pay for construction costs of new private refineries!  Rep. Hulshof's decision to support this misleading bill was a decisive one, as it narrowly passed the House 212-210.

COOL Amendment to FY '04 Agricultural Appropriations Bill 7/15/03: The Rehmberg-Hooley amendment, strongly supported by the beef and cattle industry and the National Farmers Union, would have restored funding for mandatory country-of-origin labeling for meat products and benefited consumers across our nation.  Rep. Hulshof sided with the big corporations and meatpackers to defeat the amendment.

H.R. 3045 7/28/05: The Appropriations Bill for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education for FY '05, pushed through Congress by the Bush administration by threat of veto (despite the fact that Congress had already rejected similar legislation 6 times), would have stripped more than 6 million workers of their overtime pay protection- including workers making as little as $23,660 annually.  An amendment offered by David Obey (D-WI) restored the protections.  Rep. Hulshof sided with the Bush administration and their Big Business cronies to vote against the Obey amendment.
