United States Naval Officer: Duane Burghard moved to Columbia in 1983 to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was later awarded an NROTC Scholarship and subsequently graduated and was commissioned in 1987. He served on board USS-KIDD (DDG-993) and at the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, Rhode Island. While on active duty as a United States Naval Officer, Duane began writing software for Macintosh computers and founded Mardun Software Ltd. (dba The MacXprts Network) in 1989.

Businessman: The MacXprts Network, a Missouri-based Apple Specialist reseller and service provider, which Duane founded over fifteen years ago, now has storefronts in six states and is one of the largest independent Apple dealers in North America.  Other business accomplishments include the creation of CyAds in 1995, Columbia Missouri 's first Cyberspace advertising firm. He also founded Tranquility.Net in 1996, one of Central Missouri 's best and most popular Internet Service Providers. He formed Supernova Publishing, publishers of the monthly Macintosh magazine, Get Info, serving as Editor. He founded the MacOS Radio Network, an Internet-only talk radio station about the MacOS (Duane served as the host for MacOS Radio's weekly broadcast until early 2002).

 Duane is one of the nation's leading experts in the area of Apple based hardware, software, networking and Internet technologies. His opinions are regularly sought out by individuals and businesses both in the U.S. and abroad.

Community leader: Duane is an active member in his local community. In the 1990s he was a regular volunteer with CASA (the Columbia Aeronautics and Space Association), the NASA sanctioned space simulator at Hickman High School. He is a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans' Commanders Club. Duane is also active in his church (First Church of Christ, Scientist in Columbia). In 1994, he was elected First Reader (preparing Sunday and Wednesday sermons from 1994-1997 and 2000-2001). He also served as its chairman of the Board of Directors in 1993 and from 1997-2000 (Duane has since returned to his favorite position in the church: Sunday School teacher).

   Duane and his wife, Mara, reside in Columbia, Missouri with their daughters, Taylor and Jordan. In his spare time he enjoys swimming, kayaking and snorkeling with his family.
