Burghard to Help Clean Up Columbia
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Duane Burghard, Democratic candidate for Missouri's 9th Congressional District, will join over 1,600 Columbia residents for Clean Up Columbia this Saturday morning, the largest single day, community-wide clean up event in Missouri. Burghard will lead one of the clean up spots with University of Missouri students, as part of their Caring for Columbia service project, and members of the Osage Sierra Club. "Days like this make me proud to be from Columbia," boasted Burghard. "In what other town would you find so many people willing to donate their time back to their community by picking up trash?"
"While it is always sad to see trash and bottles littering our town," noted Burghard, "it's encouraging to meet so many people helping to keep Columbia looking like the great community we know it to be." Burghard went on to say that he was thrilled to work with Sierra Club members and MU students. "Columbia is well-served by so many groups who are involved in making this such a great place to live."
Columbians always find creative ways to improve their community and Clean Up Columbia is just one more example. The program has grown each year and an estimated 1,600, or one of every forty, Columbians are expected to participate this Saturday. "I'm not at all surprised that so many of us are rolling up our sleeves like this," Burghard said. "Columbians put a lot of pride in their community and always match their words with deeds."
Burghard will help lead the clean up efforts along Route HH, from Route B to Svena Rd., an area commonly known as Settler's Ridge.
Directions to the site: US Hwy 63 north 1.9 miles to Rte. B, then north 3.5 miles to Rte. HH. Turn right on Rte. HH, then an immediate left into the Settler's Ridge unfinished development, across from the Phillips 66 gas station.
