Democratic candidates met at the City Park Pavilion in Hermann Last Thursday evening for a Meet the Candidates forum

Duane Burghard of Columbia, a candidate for U.S. Congress from the 9th District, is the only Democrat running in the August primary. He will be facing incumbent Kenny Hulshof, R-Columbia, in the November election.

Taking the roll of moderator and introducing the speakers was Mark Schaeperkoetter of Mt. Sterling. He was the lone candidate from Gasconade County attending the Meet the Candidates in the Park forum.

Schaeperkoetter is facing Tom Trammel for the Democratic nomination in the August primary. The winner of that August primary race will face incumbent Tom Loehner, R-Koeltztown.

Also at last Thursday evening's event were Sen. Frank Barnitz from the 16th Senate District, and Tod DeVeydt of Sullivan, who is challenging Republican incumbent Charlie Schlottach of Owensville in the 111th district of the Missouri House of Representatives.

Nichole Destafano, a representative from Claire McCaskill's office, also attended the event. McCaskill, the Missouri State Auditor, is running for U.S. Senate on the Democratic ticket against incumbent Jim Talent, R-St. Louis.
